Athenaeum mourns long-serving member Sheila Wilcockson

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of long-serving member, and former Trustee, Sheila Wilcockson.

Sheila, who died aged 85 on 17 July, served on a number of Athenaeum committees, performing many important roles during the past 50 years. From 1975-83, she held the position of Honorary Lecture Secretary. She was also one of the members who produced the book that celebrated 200 years of the Society in 2012. Sheila had been a member of the Society since 1965 and was awarded Honorary Life Membership in 1996.

Her husband, Richard, was President of the of the Society from 1983-85, and served as Vice-President from 1981-83 and 2018-21.
Sheila will be greatly missed by all her friends at the Athenaeum.

The funeral will be held at Ford Park Cemetery on Friday, 22 September at 2.30pm, followed by a gathering at Ford Park Visitor Centre.
