Correspondent of Charles Darwin, leading authority on Crustacea and one of the country’s foremost dentists, Bitten by Barnacles charts the life of Charles Spence Bate.
Spence Bate was a Fellow of the Royal Society and the Linnean Society of London and President of the British Dental Association and the Odontological Society – the first from outside the capital.
He also served as President of both The Devonshire Association and The Plymouth Athenaeum.
The Lecture was given by Athenaeum Chief Executive, Owen Ryles, who is a Fellow of The Linnean Society, the Zoological Society of London and the Royal Society of Arts on Thursday, 5th March 2020.
